Family Gateway secures UK Government funding to combat economic inactivity

Family Gateway has been awarded substantial funding from the UK Government, via the North East Combined Authority as part of the Economically Inactive Trailblazer Project. This project takes the form of £10 million pounds of funding coming into the North East to address the persistent challenges of economic inactivity.
With our portion of this funding, we’re launching Herizon: a brand-new project which will help local women to access our Barefoot Professional training, grow their confidence and use their real-world experience to have an impact in their lives and their communities. This will sit alongside Family Gateway’s wider support services, ensuring participants have all the tools they need to get the biggest possible impact from Herizon. Family Gateway was founded to find innovative ways to promote employability and employment amongst deprived communities across Tyneside and the North East. From schools to homes, we use our Barefoot Professional Model to inspire people to improve their lives not despite their challenges, but because of them.
We’re really passionate about helping people to overcome barriers and find meaningful work that benefits their whole families. Herizon is the next step in ensuring Howdon’s women can reach the next step in life, and find a path that means something to them. The last UK census estimated that 40% of people in North Tyneside are economically inactive. Part of the definition of economic inactivity includes being kept out of work by caring responsibilities. In our experience, this disproportionally affects women. By targeting local women with comprehensive and bespoke support, the funding will create savings for the public purse by reducing expenditure for both Local Authorities and Government departments.
Initially, the project is aiming to support 25 women. and spaces are available to reserve now. To enquire for yourself, or on behalf of someone else, call us on 0191 209 0092, pop into the Hub email [email protected].
